This Medical Transcriptionist Knows the Key to Success as a Remote Worker

Christine May has worked for Edoc Service as a professional contractor for more than 4 years, and during that time, she has become an integral part of the transcriptionist team.

As a self-described morning person, Christine enjoys remote work for the flexibility it offers. Despite how she enjoys the flexible schedule, though, Christine also embraces a daily routine. To start, she gets up at 4 A.M. every day. Part of that stems from how she owned a cattle farm—and ran it by herself during the week—in Pennsylvania for 15 years.

Today, life looks different, but the nature and value of routine has stuck with her. “Every morning first thing is I get dressed, wash my face, brush my teeth, look in the mirror, smile and tell myself, ‘This is a new day, stay strong, you got this.’ Then I take all 4 of my fur babies outside. I get myself a cup of caffeine, sit at my computer, read my emails, scroll through Facebook for a short bit, and then start my day of working,” she says.

Christine explains that while so many people—like her—enjoy the benefits of remote work like the flexibility it offers, part of her formula for success comes down to daily discipline. “I would say the most important advice to others in terms of remote work is to make yourself disciplined, set a goal for yourself to reach each day, or even the week, and do your best to reach that goal,” she says.

Q: What do you enjoy about your job right now?

A few things. I really love working for Edoc Service. This family is awesome to work with. I also enjoy the fact that I can work at home and take care of my mom and disabled sister, although it can be stressful, they are my family and that is the most important thing.

Q: What is something that might surprise others to learn about you?

I absolutely love Christmas and probably have more decorations than the North Pole, yet each year I add a few more and I collect nutcrackers.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy taking long rides on the motorcycle up to the mountains or to the beach with my best friend.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you that other people may not know?

I love doing charity runs for VA hospitals and children’s hospitals at Christmas time with Santa leading the way and bringing lots of presents to those who are unable to have Christmas at home.

Q: What has been your favorite vacation to date?

I would have to say the cruise I took to Bermuda with my family for my sister’s wedding. I am originally from Connecticut and so some of my family is still there, this was an amazing cruise that I got to spend with my whole family together.

Q: Do you have any hobbies?

I love doing gardening and diamond paintings for the different holidays.
